2016 Dallas Autorama Car Pictures

2016 Dallas Autorama Car Pictures
Dallas Area Classic Chevy Club Display Setup and Exhibit
  -Alan Arnell

North Texas loves the Automobile.  The Autorama at Dallas Market Hall was a great start of the car show season in North Texas and a wonderful event for the car lover.  Innovative workmanship was celebrated with the displays of traditional hot rods, customs and bobbers during the three-day stop of the Autorama in Dallas from Friday, February 19th until Sunday February 21st.

My car club, the Dallas Area Classic Chevys, (DACC) set up a display of 8 cars for the Autorama.  David, our club President put together another great display of club members’ Classic Tri-Five Chevrolets.  This year's display was DACC’s 39th year in a row that the club put together a club exhibit.  At this year's Autorama, DACC brought to the show two 1957 Chevy Convertibles, two 1955 Bel Airs, a 1956 Bel Air, a 1956 Nomad, and a 1955 Convertible.   My club member’s cars attracted the fancy of the Autorama spectator.

While I attended the show enjoy the great cars of course.  I also, toured the tuner gallery, the model car contest, the Toy-a-Rama and a lowrider cruise. For an added treat this year a special live concert was performed by Danny the “Count” Koker from the TV show counting cars along with the band “Count’s 77”.  Along with “Count Koker” and his band there was also special appearances by celebrities Sean Whitley, driver of the Farm Truck and his side kick ANZ who are on the TV show “Street Outlaws”.  From a distance, I saw Emma Post from "Jersey" and WWE wrestler Daniel Bryan.

In addition to the normal Autorama experience I helped my club members set up the club’s display exhibit.  We had all eight of our cars together in one display area.  We rented a carpet for our display and also use our own standards and flagged rope to separate the display.  The club displayed signage that celebrated the Tri-Five Chevy.

I helped construct the sign’s holding scaffolding and helped string the separation rope.  For each car we made an information poster.  I helped assemble small easels to hold the metal clad individual car posters and helped push and drive the display cars into position.

We generally like to have non showing club member help to set up the display as the car owners spend most of his and her time preparing their cars for the largest indoor car show in the DFW Metroplex.  My car is a driver and not really an Autorama show type of car, so I did not bring my 1957 model 150 2-door sedan to the show.

I also worked the information and recruitment table for a four hour shift one morning.  The club had printed 1000 free hero card handouts for our spectators.  The hero cards were 8 by 11 inches in size.  The information posters were metal backed and were 20 by 30 inches in size.  Each poster gave information for the cars on display and information for DACC’s 40th year Anniversary Show.

DACC was formed in 1976 and is the nation's largest exclusive Tri Five Chevy local car club as of 2016. We will be 40 years old this year.

This April, DACC will celebrate its 40th Anniversary by having the “Dallas Area Classic Chevys Car Club’s 1955-1957 Chevy Show”.  The show will be held on Sunday, April 10th from 1 to 4 PM at Reliable Chevrolet, located at Arapaho and Central Expressway in Richardson, Texas.

There will be no entry fees and admission for spectators is FREE for the show.  All 1955 to 1957 Chevy Cars, trucks and Corvettes are welcomed to display.  Club membership is not required to show your car at the Anniversary Show.  At the show you will see pristine Tri-Five show cars, drivers, race cars, traditionals and projects.  Over 100 Tri-Fives are expected to be in attendance!

During the show random door prizes will be given away.  The oldies band “Johnny Diamond and the Silver Hubcaps” will perform. During the concert there will be contests for best 50's dressed, hula hoop twirling and dance the twist competitions.

Celebrity judges will be in attendance.  Candy Clark who starred as Debbie in the hit movie American Graffiti will make an appearance.

As always at the DACC Spring Show will not have formal judging.  All awards given for “outstand cars” will be picked by celebrities and sponsors.

The “Car Guy Show” TV program will have a film crew at the 40th Anniversary show to film an upcoming episode of the show.

I personally invite each and everyone of my readers to attend the show.  Please bring and  show your Tri Five Chevy car, truck or Corvette.  Or, just come to the show to see over 100 great looking cars and eat free birthday cake with us!  All in all, a fun filled afternoon of shiny Chevrolets and 50’s nostalgia!  More info at www.DallasClassicChevy.com.

As a spectator at the Autorama, I took a walk around Market Hall and took pictures of my favorite cars at the show.  Enjoy.
