Adding an Oil-Pressure Gauge
To a Classic Chevy Tri-Five Bel Air

If you put any kind of high-performance engine in your Classic Car you must know that doing so constantly pushes the engine to the limit. That is what Hot Rodding is about right? Whether you are driving to Tri-Five Nationals or heading down to the Dairy Queen for an icecream accurate engine information is a must. I have written about installing a water temperature gauge. (LINK to post). Today, I will discuss your car’s life’s blood, specifically it’s oil pressure.
Stock Electric Oil Sending Units.
To install an oil-pressure gauge, locate and remove the stock sending unit. This may require a special socket available from most auto parts stores, or just use a big ass pair of pliers.
T Fittings for dual oil Pressure Information
Since a warning light can sometimes alert the driver faster than a gauge, it is best to retain the operation of the oil light with the new gauge. To do this, an arrangement of brass fittings put together in a T shape will allow both the sending unit and the oil-gauge line to operate concurrently.
At the rear of the oil gauge, the plastic line is assembled onto the fitting. Be careful to slide the brass ferrule onto the plastic line before tightening. Remember to install the rubber grommets where the plastic oil line pawwes through the fire wall. Doing so will minimize the the movements of the car and the metal edge from cutting the line allowing hot oil to drip or spray all over you new shoes.
